Cardross Estate played host to an exciting new event, The Deep Roots Gathering: Drawing from the Ancestral Well. The event was based at the Beewell Demonstration Garden within Cardross Estate and run by Lauren Lochie, from Herbal Homestead, who was co-hosting The Gathering.
An immersive three day event, this Gathering was a mix of hands-on learning and connecting with Gaelic culture, tradition bearers, craftspeople, local plants, and traditional foods. It also explored ancestral traditions, Gaelic story, song and language for connecting with the land. Leaders of regenerative movements in Scotland and beyond shared practices, teachings and pathways with the aim of connecting and/or reconnecting participants with a more land-based and connect way of being, with the world around and within.
Over the weekend, the organisers offered participants the opportunity to engage in a wealth of teaching and experiences, from Gaelic land-based traditions and language to traditional practice and preparations for Beltane and other Celtic seasonal celebrations. This unique event brought together social and environmental community organisers, activists and people working to transform previously harmful systems, with an aim to work in solidarity with local communities and those around around the world, to regain autonomy and wellness.
Cardross Estate was delighted to welcome this community enriching gathering as it’s ethos is very much aligned to our own. It actively encouraged participants to build meaningful networks and aimed to support ones own journey towards ways of living, with a positive relationship with the land. Participants were also encouraged to thinking globally and stepping into solidarity with land defence movements around the world. The first of many we’re sure!
