I think it is safe to say that Doune the Rabbit Hole was a total triumph this year. Absolutely first class effort by the team! Well done everybody.
We had our fingers crossed that the glorious weather didn’t break before the weekend and it clearly worked! Despite a new layout, the team managed to build the festival without any issues and everything was in place for Friday.
The festival had a great start, as everyone arrived in good time to watch the beginning of an amazing line up. The opening band this year was Dreadzone, who couldn’t have been a better opener. Surrounding the main stage were some familiar faces with food stalls such as Haggisman, the bars was stocked with familiar and delicious ciders and beers as usual. A great end to the evening was the performance from the prestigious Akala.
On Saturday it was a slightly slower start after a late night enjoying the beer and music. Intensive sun soaking was required as it was another great day of sun . The afternoon highlight was Elephant Sessions, getting the audience going for the evening to follow. The Peatbog Faeries and Temples were great climax of the day.
Sunday: Sadly the weather broke in the morning and festival goers had to don the waterproofs, however, thankfully it recovered in the afternoon. The two big shows of the weekend, Big Country and then the Levellers, played a great back to back set. For the later Sunday revellers, the day ended at the Whistleblower stage with an energetic performance by the Langan Band.
A great characteristic of Doune the Rabbit Hole is their attention to detail. Every year they make sure that there are great side shows for the kids and adults alike. This year was no exception and we believe the best yet, we saw the return of the now infamous Rainbow Riot, but also the addition of performance of our favourite clown Pina Polar and there was even the addition of a large screen to watch Wimbledon and the World Cup. However, the night performance was the most amazing spectacle of the weekend with musical fire performers.
All in all, a great weekend and we are already looking forward to next year. Earlybird tickets are already on sale at their website.
